The rapid transformation of food systems, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, will have impacts on development, sustainability, national economies, and health issues ranging from stunting and micronutrient deficiencies to overweight, obesity, and noncommunicable diseases.
Yet what is driving these transformations? Understanding the forces that are shaping food system development will enable policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders to identify policies and interventions that can ensure our food systems globally transform in a way that is healthy and sustainable for all people.
A4NH researchers from the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and colleagues conducted an analysis of current research on food system drivers, to help identify what gaps remain in our understanding and identify points of entry for future research. Their work was published in Global Food Security in 2019.
