MARY AMUYUNZU-NYAMONGO

Founding Director and Technical Consultant, African Institute for Health and Development

Mary Amuyunzu-Nyamongo is the Founding Director of and Technical Adviser to the African Institute for Health and Development (AIHD), an organization based in Nairobi, Kenya, that conducts research, training, and advocacy on health and development issues. She has more than 28 years of work experience in Kenya and the African region, and has published widely in the areas of health and development, focusing on non-communicable diseases, HIV/AIDS, gender, youth, mothers and children under five, rural and urban poverty, and health promotion in general. She provides consultancy services for institutions such as the World Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the Government of Kenya. She serves on international and national committees and boards, including the Immunization and Vaccines-Related Implementation Research Advisory Committee, the Regional Programme Review Group for WHO, and the Mectizan Donation Program, and chairs the National Biosafety Authority of Kenya.  She holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from Cambridge University and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Nairobi.
